DURRER 4, DULA 4 State of the art, fully automatic, high production step and European Thumb Cut indexing module that, coupled with the Dula 4, cuts, can print tab area in 2 color and lacquer the tab areas all in one operation. Hopper loaded, the Durrer automatically counts pages to the proper locations, cuts and delivers. This configuration is ideal and highly cost effective for address and appointment books, planners, diaries and catalogs.
On a gradual step indexed product such as address books, appointment books and diaries, Ross-Gage is able to pad print on the tabs after cutting, thus ensuring perfect register.

TAB PRINTING
Thumb Cut Indexing is the oldest and best known form of indexing. It is mostly commonly found in bibles and dictionaries. Basically, the process has changed little for many years. Thumb Cut Indexing involves three separate steps: first, the specific pages must be found and the position of each cut marked. Second, an operator positions a hand
held, hydraulically powered cutting tool at each location and cuts the thumb cut notch. Last, an operator applies the die cut, foil stamped tabs to each location. As you see, this is labor intensive and therefore the more costly method of indexing.
European Thumb Cut and Step Indexing are both processed on the same computer controlled cutting machines. The operator, aided by locator marks (or any other locator aid such as pages of different color or stock) locates the pages to be cut, cycles the machine and repeats the process until the book is finished. This process is
semi-automatic and very cost effective.
